There is no separating art from life for me. My life is art. Exploring my creativity with passion and introspection fuels my soul. The transformation my ideas go through from conception to completion inspires and challenges me. The dance of emotions in life’s every moment become subject matter for my work. My connection to the natural world is essential for respecting and honoring my beliefs and values. I have traveled extensively, learning about cultures and traditions and expressing these experiences in my art. While traveling I paint and sculpt in sand, snow, twigs and whatever materials are present.

Since 1981, I have been a freelance artist involved with design projects ranging from murals, wooden mobiles, glass fusing, illustrations, painting and clay figurative sculpture. The past several years I have been drawn to express myself in clay, especially the human form. The history and relics of the goddess imagery is of particular interest. What stimulates my curiosity is that these cultures tended to be egalitarian, earth centered, and non-violent. The stories behind the deities fascinate me. Inspired by people worldwide, past and present, I interpret stories through body postures, shapes, clothing, and movements. Incorporating political and human nature I hope to awaken the spirit, invoke a feeling, and remain true to myself.

Since exploration of the sea has been a continued adventure of mine, I began painting fish. Collage has always been a part of my art as well; I decided to do a sort of collage of fish, shark, turtles, sailing vessels, spices and who knows where it will take me next?!

I am a self taught sculptor and painter: I hold an associate’s degree in photography and a bachelors of fine arts with a cultural studies minor. I enjoy teaching and have taught at a number of organizations including my own Creative crossings art studio and Frog Hollow in Burlington, Vermont. My art has been exhibited in both Europe and the U.S.A. My artwork can be seen online at anniecasewell.com and at the Art on Main Gallery in Bristol, Vt. , Artists Association at Mongoose Junction St. John, or Syzygy Gallery in Coral Bay, St. John, U.S.V.I. Also in stores in CA., MA., & NY.
